27.02.2012- London Fashion Week: Street Style

While all eyes were on the catwalks at London Fashion Week, there was just as much fashion inspiration to be spotted off the podiums. With everyone from professional photographers to bloggers snapping away with their SLR cameras, street shots offer an insight into what the style-conscious are championing for the current and coming seasons. Here style spotter and guest blogger Jo-ann Fortune from www.johnlewis.com picks out some of the best looks:

Tweed trials
1950s-style tweed twin sets have made a comeback over recent seasons, but if the Jackie O look is too prescriptive for your eclectic tastes, take style inspiration from these two fashion fans, both of whom put their own spin on the trend at LFW.

Add edge to a tweed shift dress by adding glamorous rock chic accessories such as a statement necklace, chunky boots and a faux fur jacket, or dress it down for the office with kitten heels and a classic camel coat. For the preppy look, which is huge this season, pair a modest tweed skirt with a crisp shirt, soft pullover and lady-like handbag.

Cosy cossacks
We may be well ready for spring to bring its bright fashion treats, but we’re not quite there yet, as was obvious from the fashionistas keeping cosy in fur hats and hoods outside the shows. Kate Moss, Abbey Clancy and Kate Middleton are among the celebs to have championed Russian-inspired faux-fur hats, so this happy fashion fan is in good company.

Fast-forwarding to Autumn/Winter 2012/13, rainbow-dyed fur trims were showcased on the Moschino Cheap & Chic runway and are likely to prompt copycat high-street versions that will brighten up dark days.

Printed pants
If you’re looking for a fashion-forward alternative to dresses and skirts this year, trousers have been given a major makeover for spring/summer. Featuring floral, animal, baroque and graphic prints, this key piece is all you need to make a style statement. Blogger Bip Ling and Olivia Palermo were just a few of the recognisable faces seen sporting bold bottoms at LFW.

For a subtler look, which is still very much on-trend, opt for candy-coloured denim instead and pair with a basic black and white top or colour-pop piece depending on how ‘fashion’ you’re feeling.

Bow-tie boys
Of course LFW isn’t just for the girls, and the street snappers spotted a fair few dapper gents leading the way for men’s fashion outside Somerset House. Smart is certainly the style to be seen in this season, with bow ties and statement man bags adding interest to shirts – buttoned right up to the top – with neat waistcoats and pea coats.
